Standout: With Your Wardrobe

DSC_6261.jpg

The first thing to plan for is your first impression. Whether it's winning a job or a date, a key to success is making the other person comfortable. Comfort starts with your appearance. Yet there are subtle ways to be distinct. With the right use of color, patterns, and accessories one can command attention without saying a word. This power will now put you in a position of influence.

Color.

Colors bring about an emotional response in each of us. They stimulate emotions and feelings subconsciously. There are several factors to consider when wearing color: the color of your hair, your skin tone, and your eye colors are some of the most important ones. When incorporating color also consider what some colors symbolize. It is no surprise that the business color blue symbolizes trust, loyalty, and wisdom.

DSC_6499.jpg

Patterns.

Like color, patterns must match the rest of the outfit, suit the occasion and be flattering on you. During Fall and Winter, we suggest adding some Plaid or Houndstooth to your wardrobe to make a statement. In the Spring and Summer Seersucker and Gingham are your game changers. Patterns not only set you apart aesthetically, but many times they add texture to your outfit.

Accessories.

Even in the most conservative environments accessories are your gateway to individuality. When used correctly these pieces will be conversations starters. Yes, ties and socks are the standard. Beyond that consider infusing your wardrobe with pocket squares, tie bars, and the less popular collar bars. In addition, frames can also be used as a practical form of self-expression. Remember the purpose of accessories are to pull everything together unless your outfit is muted make sure they don't speak to loud.

The Seattle Gents is a menswear collective that looks to highlight Seattle culture through various forms of media. From podcasts to models this group has it all. In celebration of a year's worth of work. The Seattle Gents hosted an event for entrepreneurs, brands, and creatives. Indochino Seattle

A Man About Style

In the words of Jay-Z "nobody's built like you, you have to design yourself." Many of us feel that buying made to measure is out of reach, even if our we are far from the "average body type." With this in mind, Indochino set out to make buying made to measure convent, cost-effective and accessible. The Canadian based retailer was the first company to deliver mass customized men's clothing directly to consumers and remains the largest in the world. Today we will guild you through two tailored Indochino experiences.  For the progressive, buying a made to measure suit is now only one click away. For the classic man, the revered relationship between a man and his tailor still holds value.

IMG_7860.jpg

Step 1: GET MEASURED

The progressive:

Like most men, the toils of life seem to always be beckoning. When you shop, you are well educated about what you want. Since you are a self-starter in all things, you elect to go to indochino.com.  There are a lucky few who have their measurements in hand. If that isn't your story? Relax, all you need is a few minutes on your feet and a friend that can read a measuring tape.  After that, just follow the step by step video prompts and enter your measurements. The final process is to set up your measurement profile, which will take less than 10 minutes and can be done from anywhere you choose.

IMG_7851.jpg

The Classic Man:

One of the amenities of buying bespoke attire is that customer service is not a suggestion.  As men, we have few sanctuaries. Like the barbershop, an Indochino showroom is a place for free thought and expression.  We at AMAS suggest you visit the new Seattle location, but they the have many beautiful spaces across the United States and Canada. Upon arrival, the vibes and ambiance make you feel comfortable. Once checked in, your suiting professional will take your measurements.  During this process, you are encouraged to be yourself. If you desire peace from the hustle and bustle, this is your refuge. Here at A Man About Style, we promote the art of healthy conversation and dialogue, since we all can learn from the stories and experiences of others.

Step 2: Fabric Choice

IMG_7980.jpg

The Progressive:

While online you will be given the option to choose your garment by model, fabric or color. As a seasoned shopper, you can easily find out the garments makeup. Other running details include garment care, season suggestions, and wardrobe functionality.

The classic Man:

You know that fabric choice is the key to longevity. So being able to discuss how a piece of fabric will  breath always be useful to you. An advantage of visiting a showroom is the ability to see how vibrant a color or pattern is. The sharp dresser also knows texture is as big apart of putting an outfit together as color or design. If you are a novice or veteran the interpersonal connection, you will have with your suiting professional will prove valuable for education and inspiration.

Step 3: Customizations

The Progressive and "Classic" man both have similar experiences when it comes to customization. Indochino has a vast selection of options from lapel types,  jacket vents, buttons, and monogramming.  We do suggest when customizing your garment less is more. If your suit is muted, go bold with your inside liner or vice versa. Whatever you choose make sure that the clothing reflects an image befitting your best self. Indochino is here to inspire confidence that people can admire.

Henry's Tavern

Breaking bread has always been more than just eating. It implies that the event has fostered memories or has created an event that has brought unlikely parties together. If you're like us, you have experienced some of the best moments and conversations over a bite or beverage.  With that reverence in mind, Henry's Tavern has created a space that revolves around the sense of community.

Dining out should always be about the experience. For many of us, that hinges on the customer service. The culture at Henry's will lift your spirits with their infectious energy and attentiveness. Though they are subtle, as to not take away from those you came to dine with. Speaking of dining you won't be disappointed.

Henry's brings to life many of your favorites when it comes to American cuisine. When dining here you are encouraged to pair your meal with their large assortment of brews. Our favorite dishes off the menu are the waffle fry poutine,  Blue Moon crispy cod tacos, and the BBQ Bacon Burger. Needless to say Henry's has all the right ingredients from service to food for any occassion.

Astor By Blue Nile Diamond Event

Astor by Blue Nile Diamond

Before Dawyne Carter invented the word "Bling Bling," human beings have always judged a diamond by how much it sparkles. If you aren't a rapper (or a woman who has scoured Pinterest for the perfect stone she one day hopes to receive), you may not know the factors that contribute to a desirable diamond. In short, it boils down to the Four C's.

Firstly, Carat is the big buzz word you most associate with the word diamond. A Carat is the measure of a diamond's weight. Then there is the cut. The quality of the cut is determined by the proportions, symmetry, and polish. These three factors affect the color of the stone. The closer to white or colorlessness the better. This leads us to the final C: clarity. Clarity is defined as how free a diamond is from inclusions (Imperfections in the stone).

Now that know what you're looking for in a diamond, try Astor by Blue Nile. This collection is known for its sparkle. To achieve this luster, they hand select each diamond. They are then doubled certified by the two world leaders in light performance and diamond characteristics. The cut is the most critical factor in determining the sparkle of the diamond. Sparkle being measured as a diamond rocks back and forth so that every facet of the stone comes alive. All Astor diamonds are guaranteed to have no inclusions visible to the naked eye Because of the high standard regarding precious symmetry and proportion, only one in every 1,000 diamonds are chosen to be Astor diamonds.

Whether you're looking for the perfect diamond to celebrate your mixtape going platinum or you want to satisfy the women who thought she already found the perfect diamond on Pinterest. An Astor by Blue Nile will not disappoint.

Uphoriq Mens Event

A Man About Style champions the spirits of those who defy the status quo and dare to be diverse. When Uphoria™ approached us to be a part of their story, we graciously accepted the opportunity as we value brands that unite like families instead of those “dog eat dog” monoliths that dominate much of the business culture. Uphoria has a diverse group of founders and product line that ranges from dapper accessories to edgy streetwear pieces.

We were asked to host their premier launch party at the Seattle Art Museum. This room was teeming with business entrepreneurs, fashion influencers, and a few press agencies. The infamous Dj Peg set the mood that night, with a mix of soul sample driven records. Our show began with the ear-piercing horns of Jay-Z’s “Show Me What You Got.” Richard Meharry walked down the steps of the art museum - bringing his usual high energy - while donning a chambray tux for the occasion. His co-host (Endurance Nweke, curator of cool) soon followed with Dave East’s “Maneuver” playing in the background. After this “Shout Out Ma”  was played for our kind sponsors: 360 vodka, Dry Sparkling, and SlusaTV.

This break-in program provided our VIP’s with catered hors d’oeuvres as each patron networked and was greeted individually by our uptempo hosts. After some time, Richard introduced the live performer of the night: James Lion. Mr. Lion captivated the crowd with his stage presence and heartfelt lyrics. He graciously set the stage for Toney Shellman, the guest of honor. Toney Shellman - for those who don’t know - is recognized by Black Enterprise, has been honored by recording artist Ne-Yo, and is the co-founder of several cultural brands. Before he conveyed his excitement and blessed our event, he brought out his special guest: Future of the Prince Ovos own DJ. Future did not perform but added to the excitement.
